The investment seeks to provide current income, consistent with preservation of capital. The fund will attempt to achieve its investment objective by investing in a mix of American Funds bond funds. The fund will principally invest in funds that seek current income through bond investments. The fund is designed for investors who attend college currently or plan to in the near future.
The investment seeks to track the performance of a market-weighted bond index with a short-term dollar-weighted average maturity. The fund employs an indexing investment approach designed to track the performance of the Barclays U.S. 1-5 Year Government/Credit Float Adjusted Index. This index includes all medium and larger issues of U.S. government, investment-grade corporate, and investment-grade international dollar-denominated bonds that have maturities between 1 and 5 years and are publicly issued. All of the fund's investments will be selected through the sampling process, and at least 80% of the fund's assets will be invested in bonds held in the index.
The investment seeks total return. The fund's overall investment strategy is to invest in a portfolio consisting primarily of U.S. Treasury securities, U.S. government agency securities, (including mortgage-backed securities issued or guaranteed by U.S. government agencies or instrumentalities), mortgage-backed securities (MBS), asset-backed securities and investment-grade corporate securities. It will invest at least 80% of its net assets plus the amount of any borrowing for investment purposes in fixed-income securities. The fund may invest its assets in securities of other investment companies, including the securities of affiliated money market funds.

The fees, balance and savings information above are estimated numbers, based on the data FeeX had at the day of publication, but may not be accurate due to incomplete or erroneous data.

The best choice is based on a combined analysis of lowest fees and highest similarity to the original fund.

FeeX's similarity algorithm analyzes over 15 investment characteristics like investment category, asset allocation, strategy, geographical allocation and more. FeeX gives each its own weight and calculates the similarity of any two investments based on a scale of 0 to 100%. Funds with a similarity ranking of 85% and higher are considered "similar".

Yes, funds and ETFs charge fees

Deep within every fund you own lies a hidden fee called expense ratio. It takes away a set % of your savings each and every year. It can often be easily reduced by switching to similar investments with lower expense ratios.
