The investment seeks to provide safety of principal and a moderate rate of return after taking account of federal and state taxes for California residents. The fund normally invests at least 80% of its net assets in a portfolio of municipal securities issued by the State of California or its political subdivisions, or otherwise exempt from California state income tax. It may also invest up to 20% of its net assets in fixed-income securities of U.S. issuers that are not municipal securities if, in the Manager's opinion, these securities will enhance the after-tax return for California investors. The fund is non-diversified.
The investment seeks a high level of current income, exempt from federal and California personal income taxes. The fund normally invests at least 80% of assets in investment-grade municipal debt securities whose interest is exempt from federal and California personal income taxes. Potentially it invests more than 25% of total assets in municipal securities that finance similar types of projects. The fund normally maintains a dollar-weighted average maturity between two and five years. It is non-diversified.
