The investment seeks to provide a high level of current income. The fund employs a flexible investment approach, allocating across different types of fixed-income securities with few limitations as to credit quality, geography, maturity or sector, with the goal of achieving a high level of current income. It may invest in U.S. government securities and foreign government bonds, as well as U.S. and foreign corporate bonds and debentures, asset-backed securities, mortgage-backed securities and convertible bonds. The fund also may invest in corporate loans.

The fund seeks to achieve its investment objective by investing primarily in a broad market of securities that the Adviser believes are undervalued. The fund's investment adviser defines "broad market" as the span of credit qualities and market capitalizations of the overall market that it will consider for purchase for the fund. The average maturity of the fixed-income securities in the fund's portfolio will generally range from 6 to 8 years, and will not exceed a targeted maturity or average workout date of 10 years.
The investment seeks real return consistent with preservation of capital. The fund pursues its investment objective by primarily investing in U.S. Treasury securities, short-duration high-yield/high-risk debt, commodity-linked investments, and equity securities. Its investments in U.S. Treasury securities may also include Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, also known as TIPS. The fund may invest up to 90% of its net assets in short-duration high-yield/high-risk debt securities. Its investments in short-duration high-yield/high-risk securities include debt rated below investment grade, also known as "junk" bonds.
