The investment seeks to generate high current income and, as a secondary objective, the long-term growth of capital. The fund invests in both debt and equity securities. It is anticipated that the dollar-weighted average maturity of debt securities that the fund purchases will not exceed 15 years. The fund emphasizes investments in U.S. common stock and other securities convertible into common stock as well as fixed income securities such as corporate bonds and United States government securities. It may invest in mortgage-backed securities. The fund may also invest in securities of foreign issuers which are listed on a United States stock exchange or are represented by American Depositary Receipts (ADRs).
