Description
The investment seeks current income, a portion of which is exempt from regular federal income tax, while secondarily striving for long-term growth of capital. The fund invests in a mix of American Funds in different combinations and weightings. The underlying American Funds will typically seek to generate income from their investments and may include growth-and-income, equity-income, balanced and bond funds. Through its investments in the underlying funds, the fund will have significant exposure to dividend-paying stocks. It will seek exposure to issuers domiciled outside the United States, including those domiciled in emerging markets.
The investment seeks to provide a tax-efficient investment return consisting of federally tax-exempt income, long-term capital appreciation, and a modest amount of taxable current income. The fund invests approximately 50% to 55% of its assets in municipal securities and the balance in common stocks. The fixed income portion of the fund is concentrated in high-quality municipal securities with a dollar-weighted average maturity expected to be between 6 and 12 years. At least 75% of the municipal bonds purchased by the fund will be rated in one of the top three credit-rating categories.

Yes, funds and ETFs charge fees

Deep within every fund you own lies a hidden fee called expense ratio. It takes away a set % of your savings each and every year. It can often be easily reduced by switching to similar investments with lower expense ratios.
